Who we are
Spurta is a running and training app for Android, made by an independent developer. In this policy "Spurta", "we" and "us" mean Spurta and its developer. For anything about your data, write to support@spurta.app.
What we collect
| What | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, name, username, city, short bio, profile photo, whether your account is private | Signing in, and how others find and recognise you |
| Activities | Sport, time, distance, pace, climb, GPS line, heart rate, photos, title, notes, effort, shoes or bike used | Recording, your history, bests, training load and sharing what you choose |
| Training | Your plan, goal race, morning check-ins (sleep, legs, mood), strength sessions | A plan that adapts to how you feel |
| Social | Who you follow, Zaps, comments, posts, clubs, group runs, challenges, Turf tiles, messages, reports | The feed, clubs, challenges and messages |
| Safety | Your safety contacts' names, phone numbers and email addresses; when an alert is sent, your last known position | Telling the people you chose when something may be wrong |
| Live Trail | Your position every few seconds while you share a run; cheers sent by people watching (a first name they type) | Letting the people you sent the link to follow your run |
| Device | Phone model and Android version, battery settings, sensor readings during a recording | Keeping recordings reliable and detecting falls (only if you turn it on) |
We don't collect your contacts list, advertising ID or browsing history, and we don't use tracking or advertising SDKs.
Location
- While you record, Spurta uses your precise location to draw your route and measure distance and pace, including with the screen off. A notification shows whenever this is happening. It stops when you finish.
- For the run window (the best time to run today), Spurta sends a rough area, rounded to about 11 km, to the weather services below. It's never your exact position, and it carries no account or name.
- Others never see your starts and ends. By default the first and last part of every route is hidden, and so is anything inside your privacy zones. Turf, segments and leaderboards only use the part others can see.
- You can turn location off in Android's settings at any time. Recording needs it; the rest of the app works without it.
Health Connect
If you connect Health Connect, Spurta can read heart rate and workouts (to fill in heart rate for a run and to import your history) and write your Spurta activities (sport, time and distance) so other apps can see them. You choose each permission in Health Connect and can withdraw it there.
Data from Health Connect is used only to provide these features in Spurta. It isn't used for advertising, isn't sold, and isn't shared except as described here. Spurta's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use it
- To run the app: record, sync between your devices, show your history, plans, bests, levels and badges.
- To show others what you choose to share, and to run the social features you use.
- To send the emails you expect: sign-in codes, safety-circle invites, alerts and Live Trail links.
- To keep Spurta safe and working: stop spam and abuse, handle reports, and fix crashes.
Most of the coaching (readiness, the spike guard, pace targets, the run window's scoring) is worked out on your phone.
Who sees your activities
Each activity is visible to everyone, your followers or only you. Pick the default in Settings and change it per activity. A private account means people must ask to follow you. Your safety contacts see nothing unless an alert is sent. A Live Trail link shows your run only to people who have the link, and it stops working an hour after you finish.
Who else handles your data
These services handle data for us, only to provide Spurta:
| Service | What for | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, file storage (servers in the United States) | Your account and everything you sync |
| Resend | Sending emails | The recipient's email address and the message |
| MET Norway | Weather forecast | A rough area (about 11 km) |
| Open-Meteo | Air-quality forecast | A rough area (about 11 km) |
| Sentry | Crash reports, so we can fix what breaks | What went wrong, the phone model and Android version, and your account's random id. Never your email, IP address, routes or positions |
| OpenFreeMap | Map tiles | Which map tiles your phone shows, and its IP address |
| Google Fonts | Fonts on our web pages | Your browser's IP address when you open them |
| Google Play | Installing and updating the app | What Google receives under its own terms |
When you send a safety alert, your contacts receive your name, the kind of alert and, if known, a map link to your last position. We'd only disclose data otherwise if the law requires it, and we'd tell you when we're allowed to.
How long we keep it
- Your account and activities: until you delete them or your account.
- Live Trail positions and cheers: removed a day after the link stops working.
- Safety alerts: removed after 90 days.
- Segments you created stay for other runners after you delete your account, without your name.
- When you delete your account, everything is removed from our database and storage straight away. Backup copies are overwritten within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- See and take your data: Settings, then Export everything, gives you one ZIP with every activity (as a spreadsheet, JSON and GPX files), your gear, plans, check-ins, bests and badges, and what's kept on our server: who you follow and who follows you, your posts, comments, messages you sent, clubs, challenges, segments and safety contacts.
- Correct it: edit your profile and activities in the app.
- Delete it: delete any activity, or your whole account (how).
- Object or ask: email support@spurta.app. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you have legal rights over your data, and we honour them for everyone. We answer within 30 days.
Security
Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). Every table on our server only lets you reach your own data, plus what others chose to share with you. Deleting your account needs a recent sign-in, so a phone left signed in can't delete it.
Children
Spurta isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has signed up, write to us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we'll tell you in the app first.
